Following a review, the "Yukiguni Uonuma Golden Cycle Route" (Yukiguni Uonuma GCR) has been designated as a "National Cycle Route" (NCR) in the third round of designations.
The NCR system is a scheme where only routes that meet a certain standard, in terms of both software and hardware, are designated as cycling routes that can represent Japan and be proud of to the world.
This designation recognises ongoing efforts in developing environments where people can enjoy the rich natural beauty of the Uonuma region, its unique snow country culture, and picturesque rural landscapes, as well as initiatives in information dissemination.
This designation is expected to further boost regional revitalisation, such as attracting cyclists from both home and abroad and promoting tourism by bicycle.
