This 30 km course starts and finishes at Echigo Yuzawa Station, the gateway to Niigata Prefecture from the Kanto region. The area offers a rich natural valley and a sense of history among the towering Echigo-Tsumari mountains. Don't miss Japan's first arch-type erosion control weir, the Daigenta erosion control weir, which is a registered tangible cultural property, and the beautiful railway bridge, the Kewatosawa Bridge, which has been recognised as a Civil Engineering Heritage Site.
The Gangi Street on the station concourse is lined with souvenir shops and eating alleys, while the Ponshu-kan offers tastings of representative brands of Niigata Prefecture's sake breweries. In front of the west exit station, where the ryokan area is located, there are bike rentals (Snowy Country Tourist House) and footbaths.

Yuzawa Central Park
A park where you can enjoy sports in a spacious area. The park is shaded and cool even during the hot summer months. There are also pavilions and benches where you can take a break while feeling the cool breeze.

There is a campsite area, Daigenta Lake area and Flower Township area, where visitors can enjoy different activities such as barbecues, nature walks and hands-on workshops. Don't miss the Daigenta Erosion Control Weir, Japan's first arch-type erosion control weir and a registered tangible cultural property.

Moudozawa Bridge
This masonry railway bridge was completed in 1931 and has been selected as a civil engineering heritage site. It was introduced on a TV programme as 'the second most beautiful railway bridge in Japan' and is a popular hidden photo spot.

Soto Zen temple. Two sculptures of Nio statues by Ishikawa Uncho are enshrined in the tower gate. Unfortunately, some of the colours have been repainted in later periods and are different from Uncho's original work.
